Small but mighty。 Mighty and beautiful 😌

Cute book about a garden and those who cultivate it and help it to grow。 Share as a read aloud for story time themes of taking care of the earth, springtime, gardens and gardening, plants, and helping others。

A tiny guy live on a plot of land that provides his food, shelter and purpose, but is a bit too much for him to work alone。 While he is in recovery, he get's an unexpected hand in managing his place。 I liked that someone else saw the potential and jumped in to help, but was a little disappointed by a couple things。 They never meet (which, "what does that matter?" but he's been working hard on this plot of land and then the helper comes and does what she thinks should happen, not knowing his plan A tiny guy live on a plot of land that provides his food, shelter and purpose, but is a bit too much for him to work alone。 While he is in recovery, he get's an unexpected hand in managing his place。 I liked that someone else saw the potential and jumped in to help, but was a little disappointed by a couple things。 They never meet (which, "what does that matter?" but he's been working hard on this plot of land and then the helper comes and does what she thinks should happen, not knowing his plan or working toward it except that she takes care of the obvious)。 Which leads to the biggest problem, it states he is necessary to the garden, but that doesn't follow what we've seen in the story (I was a very logical kid, if I'd read this back then, I would have been like "No he isn't, she's the one that made all the change and fixed things and there's nothing to show he'll be able to keep up with it on his own。")。 Otherwise, a good "helping others" story, with okay pictures。 No content issues; there is a hint at the enormous toll overwhelming exhaustion can take on you and that it's okay to take time off to recover。 。。。more

A tiny gardener is struggling to care for his large garden, but he loves his garden very much, it is his hope and joy。 He struggles on even though he does not seem to be achieving anything。 The love and care he has for his garden has grown one beautiful flower and is noticed by someone a lot bigger than him。 They are inspired to care for the garden also。 This story, accompanied by lovely illustrations, shows the power of inspiration and perseverance。

Story about a little gardener who relies on his giant garden for food, shelter and joy but it is just too big for him to take care of。 With some help, the garden begins to provide for him realising how important the little gardener is。 Highlights the importance of persevering even when it's tough and how we need friends to help us to do so。 Story about a little gardener who relies on his giant garden for food, shelter and joy but it is just too big for him to take care of。 With some help, the garden begins to provide for him realising how important the little gardener is。 Highlights the importance of persevering even when it's tough and how we need friends to help us to do so。 。。。more

This story is about a little gardener unable to tend and care for the enormous garden he has challenged himself with, as the garden is far larger than himself。 Following a great deal of work, the little gardener is able to grow one beautiful flower, which becomes the source of inspiration for another gardener to begin helping tend the garden。This story is useful in the classroom for illustrating the power of collaboration and teamwork to children, as well as the benefits such work can produce。

Once there was a little gardener who lived in his garden。 The garden meant everything to him。 He was not very good at gardening, but he worked very hard to take care of his garden。 He learned that his hard work pay off and that his garden loves him as much as he loves it。

What a wonderful book! The themes presented and explored in the book have such relevance to children and adults and will generate an empathic response in the children。 Illustrations are intricate and detailed and I've noticed something different each time I've looked at them。 The accompanying text is short but well- chosen; the reader's thoughts will be provoked and their interest piqued。 What a wonderful book! This is so cute! A tiny little gardener worked very hard day and night to take care of his garden。 It was not helping much, though, and his garden was dying。 He was to tired that after he made a wish for help he fell asleep。 When he awoke everything had changed! Wonderful illustrations。

A sweet story about a tiny gardener who finds the job of caring for a very large garden just a bit more than he can handle。 The author's illustrations are the real star of the show here。 A sweet story about a tiny gardener who finds the job of caring for a very large garden just a bit more than he can handle。 The author's illustrations are the real star of the show here。 。。。more

A great addition to a kid’s shelf。 Beautiful simple story about helping hands and never underestimating the littlest of us。

In a delightfully illustrated manner, the book tells the story of a hard working gardener who has to face his garden dying slowly。 He was too little to handle all the work by himself and his life was falling apart。 Until a flower, alive and wonderful, blossomed in the garden and gave the little gardener so much hope。A book about effort, persistence, aspiration, about the power of nature and artists's complex journeys to recognition。 In a delightfully illustrated manner, the book tells the story of a hard working gardener who has to face his garden dying slowly。 He was too little to handle all the work by himself and his life was falling apart。 Until a flower, alive and wonderful, blossomed in the garden and gave the little gardener so much hope。A book about effort, persistence, aspiration, about the power of nature and artists's complex journeys to recognition。 。。。more

This is a really simple but sweet story about a little gardener。 The illustrations are beautifully detailed which can start lots of discussions and as children read this over and over they will start to discover new and creative ideas。 Exposing children to the environment is crucial these days as many are not aware of what the environment around them entails and the importance of it。

A good book for kids 3 to 5 years old。 There is a sentence or a few words on each page。 The illustration we really good。

A tale of a gardener who's too small to do his gardening properly。 He wishes for help and people come along and see that his garden has potential。 Whilst he is asleep they make his garden amazing! Loved the illustrations in this book, the soft frames were really lovely。 The story was really nice and I enjoyed reading it a lot and there is a lot of work that can be done from this, especially growing plants with children which I think they would really enjoy。

Small in stature but big in heart, the eponymous little gardener in this lovely picture-book works as hard as he can to sustain the garden that provides him with a home, sustenance, and joy。 But although he does the best he can, his garden withers, save for one beautiful flower。 Wishing on a star one night, the gardener goes to sleep, unaware that his flower also provides joy to a (big) little girl, who also works in the garden, inspiring her to do better as well。。。Part fairy-tale, part explorat Small in stature but big in heart, the eponymous little gardener in this lovely picture-book works as hard as he can to sustain the garden that provides him with a home, sustenance, and joy。 But although he does the best he can, his garden withers, save for one beautiful flower。 Wishing on a star one night, the gardener goes to sleep, unaware that his flower also provides joy to a (big) little girl, who also works in the garden, inspiring her to do better as well。。。Part fairy-tale, part exploration of the beauty and importance of the natural world around us, The Little Gardener is the second picture-book I have read from author/artist Emily Hughes, following upon her earlier Wild。 I enjoyed the story here quite a bit more than I did with Wild, and I found the artwork (as is so often the case with Flying Eye Books) absolutely gorgeous。 Children who enjoy stories about "little people" - fairy-tales like Thumbelina, The Borrowers series, the aptly named Littles series - will enjoy this story of a miniature gardener and his human-sized girl counterpart, and will appreciate seeing their garden blossom。 I know I did! Recommended to all young gardeners and/or fairy-tale lovers。 。。。more

A sweet and humble picture book about hardwork, the world around us, and how everyone needs a little help sometimes。 The illustrations in the book are beautiful, and clearly tell the story of the little gardener and all his overwhelming emotions, with added humour and colourful symbolism sprinkled in。

Rosie

Lovely garden illustrations。 The message is that we all need help - especially when it comes to the most important things in life - and when we ask for help, we will get it。

This one made me feel the feels。 To elaborate, it is a good illustration of how someone can feel strongly about changing something (anything) and work hard to make a difference, and it seems impossible。 But someone(s) else will see their hard work and it will inspire them to work hard too to change things, which DOES make the difference。
